While attending the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York in the early '70s, Wayne coached the rifle, skeet and trap teams. His love for the shooting sports led to his first position at the NRA. In his years as Director of the Education and Training Division, Wayne managed a wide range of NRA programs, including: hunter education, law enforcement and civilian firearms training, range development and operations, and the National Firearms Museum. Wayne’s mission is to enhance the philanthropic programs and opportunities available to supporters of the shooting sports. He has worked with many who recognize the mutual benefits to both the NRA and its members of major gifts and philanthropy. It is through these entities that Sheets believes, "We can financially secure the NRA’s operation and growth."
